Executive Summary

Norban Altilium Limited (NAL) is incorporated under the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC) on the 19th of January 2020 and registered with Bangladesh Hi-Tech park Authority (PR-Ka-H-202011-S-0001) on 6th of December 2020. Norban Altilium Ltd. (NAL) will setup environment friendly Lithium-ion battery assembly plant in Bangladesh. These Lithium-Ion Battery pack will be alternative power storage source. This is an ambitious project undertaken by Norban Group to create sustainable energy in Bangladesh. The Corporate Head office of Norban Altilium Ltd is located in the commercial hub of Gulshan-1. The assembling plant is set up at the Block-III of Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City, Kaliakoir in Gazipur district.

Bangladesh is an import-only market for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and it has an extensive chain of distributors’ network catering to the market demand for Lithium Ion Batteries. Most of the demand for LIB is met by imports from China, followed by India, Singapore, and the United States. In Bangladesh, the demand for LIBs is expected to register significant growth in years to come, supported by the government incentives for renewable power (which work more effectively when used with LIBs), legalization of electric three-wheel vehicles (~500,000 of which were already running in the rural areas), the increasing shift of telecoms operators towards LIBs from Lead-acid batteries (LAB), and numerous other factors. In the short term, the telecom sector seems to be the one creating significant demand for the LIBs. The country has also witnessed the transition from Lead Acid towards Lithium Ion (beginning from 2017). Supported by increasing interest of automakers in the country, the demand for LIBs for EV application is expected to witness a positive growth rate in the long term. Further, EV manufacturers, such as Bangladesh Auto Industries Ltd (BAIL), PHP Family, and Hyundai Motors have laid up plans to construct EV assembly facilities in the country.

Background Information

Norban Altilium Ltd will assemble lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery packs for commercial and industrial use. Initially NAL will initially assemble 48V-100Ah battery packs. These batteries are capable of delivering a constant voltage and has a comparatively higher charge cycle, in the range of 2000-3000. LFP batteries are environmentally safe and structurally stable. They have a lower energy density and low discharge rate. They do not heat up easily and are relatively cooler than other batteries. Lithium-ion batteries have a discharge rate as low as 4% in the first five hours when fully charged and then 1-2% per month, as compared to that of lead acid batteries with a discharge rate of 15-20% per month, which increases its shelf life when inactive. This reduces the electricity consumption for the recharging of charged lithium-ion batteries. Owing to the inherent higher charging efficiency of over 99%, the lithium-ion batteries can squeeze major current put into it compared to that of lead-acid, for which the charging efficiency is 85%, and 15% are the losses. Hence, the usage of lithium-ion battery reduces the electricity wastage. The lifetime of these are approximately 7 to 10 years.

The corporate office of Norban Altilium Ltd is in the commercial hub of Gulshan-1 The office is located at House:8/B, Road-1, Gulshan-1. The wide array of customer market ranging from telecoms and several corporates makes it easy to market the product.
Norban Altilium Ltd has signed rent agreement with Bangladesh Technosity Ltd, developer of the Block-III of Bangbandhu HiTech City in Kaliakor, Gazipur. This a specialized economic zone dedicated for the next generation technology industries. The Park boasts investment environment, dedicated services and favorable investment policies which helps flourishment of businesses. NAL will set up the assembling plant at 5,000 Square feet space in the Solaris Building, a modern commercial building with state-of-the-art industrial facilities.
